Cathodic Disbonding Test Chamber

The Cathodic Disbonding Test Chamber is designed to evaluate the cathodic disbonding resistance of coatings (typically used to protect metal substrates in marine vessels and offshore structures) exposed to seawater. It accurately assesses coating adhesion failure caused by cathodic protection, which often initiates at defects in the coating system, such as unintentional coating loss, application flaws, or excessive permeability.

Artificial holidays (intentional defects) are created on coated specimens, which are then immersed in the test solution (artificial seawater) inside the chamber. Two specimens are connected to either a cathodic protection circuit (Method A) or a sacrificial anode (Method B), while two additional specimens remain unconnected as control samples. After testing, the specimens are immediately inspected for blistering and underfilm corrosion around the artificial holidays. The degree of blistering and disbondment is evaluated according to relevant standards (e.g., ISO 15711). By comparing protected and unprotected specimens, the coating’s performance under cathodic protection conditions is assessed.

The BGD 872 Cathodic Disbonding Test Chamber consists ofElectrical control system (Siemens PLC)Heating systemAeration deviceWater circulation system. Its inner tank is made of high-temperature-resistant PP board, while the outer shell is constructed from metal sheet with painted finish. A transparent acrylic cover allows easy observation of specimens. The chamber complies with ISO 15711 (Paints and varnishes — Determination of resistance to cathodic disbonding of coatings exposed to seawater).

Features:

◆ Dual Testing Modes: Supports both Method A (impressed current/ cathodic protection) and Method B (sacrificial anode).

◆ Real-Time Voltage Monitoring: Displays voltage differentials and voltage-time curves on the touchscreen. The system automatically alerts when coating failure occurs.

◆ Temperature Tracking: Real-time display of solution temperature and temperature-time curves.

◆ Data Export: Test data can be saved to a USB drive in Excel format.

Fault Alarm: A red flashing indicator (on the right side of the device) signals operational faults.
